Thoughts!
Just some thoughts and things i've learnt during the last 3 days of GP (Guidance Programme) youth camp:

  • i thought it was really meaningful. A time that i had a chance to mingle with the youths, do things together with them, affirm them (something which i think they especially need since they are offenders and very often a result of lack of love at home and a proper role model to look up to in life). That touches my heart. To see them from the first day looking so gloomy and totally disengaging and totally disinterested and some even indifferent, to the last day where somethingn just broke within them and they changed. Their attitudes got fine-tuned, a gratitude in their hearts for receiving such love and affirmation that they have never experienced before. Simply very heartwarming.
  • Service learning at Bethany Methodist Nursing Home - Saw another side of the youths. All of a sudden, their 'bo chap' attitudes seem to disappear, start getting down to serious work in doing all the planning of performances, games and gifts for the elderly patients. When they were there, they tried to interact with the patients even though they were not fluent in dialect. They pushed them in their wheelchairs so carefully, being so careful to make sure they didn't hurt them or make them fall. Asked them how they felt when they saw the patients and did all those things for them, feedback from them was they felt very sad for them, wanted to do something for them. This sight brought me to tears (discreetly) cos' even though they committed crimes and were mischievious and misbehaved, this brought to light something that was in them. The empathy they had for the patients. So proud of them, really. :)
  • Felt so much connection with them. There are youths out there to touch. They are the ones who are just waiting for ppl like u and me to come into their lives and "polish" them. They are really diaminds, waiting to unleash their potentials. If they are willing to use them for the positive, they'll be able to do great things in life. :)
  • A lot of things to reflect la actually. Well, i learnt loads from the social workers! Thanks a lot iris & charissa, from my heart. I learnt so much in how to help them realise their emotions by the way we should ask questions, making suggestions, leading them to decision-making, BUT yet letting them take ownership of their own lives and actions. The knowledge gained, professionalism protrayed as a worker, respect commanded from them. I can only say I've got lots to learn. It's not just the anointing, it's the knowledge, the skills, the wisdom in their words, the professionalism, the experience they have. That taught me a lot. :) Thank u so much for the rich lessons. :)
  • it was indeed a good something to start with, a good exposure for me, a good experience gained.
  • all in all, i just really wana thank God and praise Him for this opportunity, for all that i've learnt, each step of the way. My prayer for the youths is that one day they will all come to know the Lord through us, their lives being changed by God, they'll live a life that God has meant for them to live, and of cos' that they'll NEVER re-offend or commit crimes ever again. :)

Wooh, it's getting late. Have some things to add on about cg and stuff but i think i'm ending here for some rest!

God, I need You, trust You, love You, wana know You like NEVER before. Break my heart for what breaks Yours, everything I am for Your kingdom's cause, as I walk from earth into eternity. :)
